After clearing the Cragmaw hideout, the company travels with Sildar Hallwinter to Phandalin.
On the trail Sildar tells them why he has decided to come to Phandalin. He is a member of the Lords Alliance, a group that wishes to bring law and order to the lands of Faerun. He is specifically looking for another agent of the alliance who has gone missing. His name is Iarno Albrek, a wizard who travelled to Phandalin to help establish order in the frontier town but has since gone missing.
Upon arrival to Phandalin the company delivers their goods to Barthens Provisions and receive their contracted 50gp each from the proprietor Elmar Barthen.
They meet various locals in the town each of whom has info and potential adventures for the company.
They start at Stone Hill Inn run by Toblen Stonehill.
Daran Edermath is an old elven adventurer who has retired to his Orchard here in Phandalin. He has heard stories from prospectors in the hills northeast of Phandalin that someone is digging around the ruins known as Old Owl Well. More disturbingly, several prospectors have reported being chased from the area by undead.
Daran asks that the characters visit the ruins, a couple days march away, and find out who’s there and what they are up to.
He informed you that the ruins are an old watchtower of an ancient magical empire known as Netheril, and he worries that dangerous magic might be dormant there.
Sister Garaelle runs the Shrine of Luck in Phandalin. Recently Sister Garaele’s superiors asked her to undertake a delicate mission.
They want her to persuade a banshee named Agatha to answer a question about a spell book. Specifically the location of a spell book that once belonged to a legendary mage named Bowgentle.
Garaele sought out Agatha in her lair, but the creature did not appear for her. Garaele believes if someone were to bring a suitable gift to Agatha, as well as, play to her vanity, they may get her to appear and trade the information for the gift. Garaele has a jeweled silver comb that may be enough to entice the banshee to appear.
Because she’s been there before, Garele is able to show the party members exactly where to go.
Halia Thornton runs the Phandalin Miner’s Exchange. She explains that the Redbrands are a problem. She tells how the ruffians loiter around the Sleeping Giant tap house and have a base under Tresendar Manor, on the east edge of town. She offers the characters 100 gp to kill the Redbrand leader, whom the outlaws call Glasstaff, and bring her any correspondence found in the leader’s quarters.
Harbin Webster is the Townmaster. He is a fat pompous fool. He seems to think that the red brands aren’t much trouble just some misguided youth.
He is looking for someone to head East on the Triboar Trail, where travelers have reported trouble with a band of orcs near Wyvern Tor.
He offers 100 gp to any group that can take care of the problem.
Linene Graywind runs Lionshield Coster. This is the local weapons shop. She recently lost a shipment from Neverwind to bandits in the area.
Outside of the Townmaster everyone seems to think that Red Brands are a huge problem in the town. Rabo immediately thinks they are a problem that he can solve and solve IMMEDIATELY!
